A Celebration of the Life of Glyn Hughes at the Junior/Senior School as part of a series of events leading to the 70th Birthday of the School in 2014.
“Glyn, in his art lessons, made children feel special, unique, lifted you beyond yourself, was there, just in case, when you came down, not waiting for thanks, which he richly deserved but never sought, but to ensure that the germination of self-confidence has begun”
‘Our Valediction’ by Upper School students and Mr Tim Lewis, 1999.
This was an occasion to bring together the old and the new, with a celebration of the life of Glyn Hughes who worked at The Junior School and The English School from 1956 until the early 90’s. The exhibition displayed certain of the artist’s work as well as personal memorabilia of his time at the School. The exhibition and workshops within the School were organised by the Junior/Senior School Alumni Association (JUSSAA), curation by Yianna Tsolaki, in reflecting on its illustrious history and the memories it holds.
Children under the supervision of the Head of Arts busily recreated his work in their own collaborative paintings. These were available to buy following a silent bid on the night. Proceeds of these sales went to the Art Department of the School.
JUSSAA also acquired an art piece from the Glyn Hughes Foundation, which they donated to the School on the night.
